Lockhart Creek Trail

Contact Information
Lockhart, Central Kootenay A, British Columbia V0B 1A4
Detailed Information

Beginning on the north side of the creek at the Lockhart Beach Provincial Park, the trail leads into a pristine wilderness valley of the Purcell Mountains. The first 7km of the trail are generally well maintained as it meanders alongside the creek through old growth timer. After the second bridge, the going gets tough, eventually climbing 1450m (4755ft) over the 10.5km trek to the top. Enjoy the great view of the Kootenay Lake region or continue to Baker Lake and that trailhead, which is about 15km one-way. Be wary of mountain bikers who often ride from Gray Creek Pass and down this trail. Also, as one of the fleet-footed authors can attest, be careful of Grizzly bears in the area.
