In and around Pilot Bay are a series of trails to explore. They are found south of Crawford Bay and offer an alternate access to Pilot bay Marine Park and Kootenay Lake. The Boomers Landing and Upper Levels Trails are 2.5km one-way and descend 280m (920ft) to Kootenay Lake. They are found close to Crawford Bay and join up with trails to Pilot Bay. The Height of Land Trail also starts near Crawford Bay. It is a 5km one-way ridge walk that offers excellent views of Kootenay Lake and Pilot Bay Peninsula. There are other short, easy trails in the area, including the Pilot Bay Lighthouse Trail and the Sawmill Bay Trail. The Pilot Bay Lighthouse was built in 1904 and is no longer in use ,while Sawmill Bay offers a user maintained backcountry campsite.
