Darkwoods Conservation Area

The Nature Conservancy of Canada acquired this 55,000 hectare piece of the Selkirk Mountains in 2008 to preserve its pristine beauty, rare plants and wildlife. Access to this nature area is limited and requires a permit. Darkwoods is open to the public from July to September for various backcountry recreational opportunities like fishing, hiking, skiing and snowmobiling. Permits are free and available by email at canadian.rockies@natureconservancy.ca or by phone 250 342-5521.
