Recreation
The area itself provides innumerable opportunities for outdoor recreation, some organized, some not. There is an active fitness center, and facilities for soccer, golf, badminton, curling & indoor volleyball. There is a Theatre group, a band, many music groups, hiking and biking clubs, a quilting guild, yoga and karate classes for adults and much more. For very young children, there is the Strong Start program at the Crawford Bay School.
In summer, the beaches, the lake, numerous hiking/mountain biking trails and there are several marinas along the East Shore. Fishing licenses are sold by local stores, and several also carry bait. The East Shore along highway 3A is part of the International Selkirk Loop, a reknown 450 km / 280-mile scenic drive encircling the spectacular Selkirk Mountains of Washington, Idaho and British Columbia. This is a popular route for motorcyclists, bicyclists and other travelers from around the world.
In the winter, the golf courses turn into x-c skiing areas – but please don’t ride your ATVs or snowmobiles on them, as they damage the turf. The back country is reached easily for deep powder.
